Did you know that it can be very easy to make your own laundry detergent? Here are 2 ways to make it.
Washing powder
Ingredients:
– 100 g baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
– 100 g Marseille soap flakes
– 100 g crystal soda
How to proceed:
If your Marseille soap is in one slice, grate it. Put all the ingredients in a jar. Close the jar and mix the ingredients by shaking the jar.
Now your washing powder is ready! If your washing machine is full put 2 tablespoons of laundry detergent. If you are doing a smaller wash, just one tablespoon is enough.
Ash laundry detergent
Ingredients:
– 100 g pure wood ashes
– 1 L water
How to proceed:
The ash is very volatile, so it is recommended to make the laundry outside. Do not hesitate to protect your face so as not to breathe the ashes.
You can get ashes from a pizzeria’s oven if you don’t have your own fireplace.
Put the ashes and the water in a bowl. Let soak overnight.
The next day, filter gently (it is best to use a coffee filter because the fine mesh will not let the ash pass). Keep the liquid, and make sure there is no ash-residue in your laundry detergent (or very little).
This laundry detergent is perfect for blood stains but not mud stains, and white clothes may lose their whiteness gradually.
If you would like to keep your clothes in good condition longer, try to wash them less often. In particular jeans and woolen sweaters since you can just air them outside overnight. The more you wash your clothes the faster they will be worn.
